Course Description
This course will provide an understanding of general treatment principles based on stages of injury (i.e. acute, subacute and chronic), as well as based on typical soft tissue and joint impairments associated with various pathological conditions. It will introduce treatment concepts for various categories of conditions, such as, muscuoloskeletal, postural, peripheral nervous system, joint dysfunctions, central nervous system, respiratory, circulatory and other systemic pathologies. The course will also include treatment of the temporomandibular joint, the application of manual lymphatic drainage techniques and the application of hydrotherapy. Baseline information of adjunctive therapies (acupuncture, taping, hot stone, hydrotherapy, MLD, laser, ultrasound, IFC, TENS, etc) will also be taught. Students will learn about common medications and classifications of medications and their relevance to massage therapy.
